5 reasons to attend an equine photography workshop

Once again, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the LMP Workshop hosted by Lauren Maeve Photography / the LMP Collective. As a photographer and artist, I feel it is so important so get out and create in a safe, stress-free environment to hone your skills and better yourself for your clients and yourself. Growth is so important. This was my second year attending the LMP Workshop and this year was just as epic, if not more so than last year. From the locations to the models, both horse and human, to the outfits…everything was absolutely stunning! And it is always so much fun to get together with other equestrian photographer from all over; I have built some amazing friendship through workshops like this.

I strongly feel that whether you are new to photography or know your camera like the back of your hand, all photographers can benefit from attending a workshop and more specifically, doing personal work. Below are 5 reasons that photographers, especially equine photographers, should attend a workshop focused on equine photography.

1 - equine focused shoots styled by someone other than you

In general, this is a huge benefit of a workshop. Someone else is doing all of the leg work for you! Take advantage of it!

2 - gain confidence shooting in a variety of settings and lighting

Most of the time you will have access to multiple models with multiple outfit changes at multiple locations. Explore new poses, new angles, and using light in creative ways.

3 - add variety to your portfolio and social media content

Most of the time the photos you take and edit from a workshop are yours to add to your portfolio and use for social media, at the very least. Many times, you may also add these images to your own print shop for consumers to purchase and use them for other advertising.

4 - network and build friendships with other like-minded professionals

This is one of the best parts! I have met and worked with some amazing photographers during workshops and those friendships have extended far beyond the workshop.

5 - zero stress to edit and deliver with the ability to be creative

Finally, the reduced stress of having to edit and deliver a gallery to clients allows you to move beyond your comfort zone and maybe even try new things. This will help you to build your confidence to successfully apply your knowledge when shooting a client session.
